Spain’s record champions Real Madrid surprisingly failed at Real Sociedad in the quarter-finals of the national cup. The Royal side lost 3: 4 (0: 1) in the Bernabéu stadium at home after a spectacular second half.

FC Barcelona also lost 0-1 (0-0) to Athletic Bilbao through a goal in injury time. For Barça, Lionel Messi missed the great opportunity to take the lead in Bilbao in the 88th minute. This punished the Basque hosts by Inaki Williams (90. + 3), against whose header the German national goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen was powerless in the Barcelona goal.
Ex-Dortmund with a double pack for Real Sociedad
Real Martin, a Norwegian borrowed from Martin Ödegaard (22nd minute), took the breaks for the guests. The former Dortmund Alexander Isak with a double pack (54th / 56th) and Mikel Merino (69th) after presentation by Isak punished Real’s negligent defensive behavior. Another hit left Isak on the sidelines.
For the home side Marcelo (59.) scored in the meantime 1: 3. In the following urgent phase of the hosts, the Merino, who was also briefly active for Borussia Dortmund, made an apparent decision. The towering Isak was then allowed to leave the square.
