The results of tests carried out Thursday morning (5/10) local time showed that Lewandowski’s left ankle was sprained. Barca announced that the 35-year-old striker had to be sidelined without stating how long his rehabilitation process would take.
“Tests carried out Thursday morning revealed that it was the left ankle Robert Lewandowski sprained his ankle and will be out until the injury heals,” read a statement on the club’s official website.
However, the Athletic reported that Lewandowski could be absent for a month or until early November 2023. This means that Lewandowski could be absent from defending Barcelona when they face Real Madrid, next October 28.
The two-time FIFA best player has started to miss this weekend’s match, in Barcelona’s away match to Granada headquarters (9/10). After the international break, Lewandowski will also miss two home matches against Athletic Bilbao (23/10) and Shakhtar Donetsk (25/10).
