Five arrests and 14 temporary stops – In the ongoing investigation into the attacks in Vienna, three people were arrested: two in St. Poelten, about an hour from the capital, and one in Linz. Interior Minister Karl Nehammer also adds that “14 temporary stops were carried out” in the investigation into the attack, but does not confirm that there were other attackers in action. As a precaution, the investigators do not, however, exclude that there may have been more responsible persons and continue to investigate this scenario as well. Two people were arrested in Switzerland as related to the attack. This was announced by the Swiss police.
Terrorist of Albanian origins – Is called Fejzulai Kurti , was born in 2000 in Vienna, where he grew up. He is of Albanian descent and his parents are from North Macedonia. The 20-year-old bomber killed during the attacks was sentenced to 22 months in prison on April 25, 2019, for trying to go to Syria and join ISIS. He had been released on December 5, early: as a young adult, he was part of a privileged regime provided by law for the protection of young people. The Minister of the Interior Karl Nehammer specified this, but he denounced: “The attacker had managed to deceive the de-radicalization program of the judiciary and therefore an evaluation and optimization of the system is necessary”. Kurtin – he later explained – was heavily armed.
The mayor of Vienna, Michael Ludwig related that Kurti era equipped with a long-barreled pistol, another firearm and a machete. “He had prepared very well for this attack“
The Austrian premier therefore has no doubts about the matrix of the attack. Sebastian Kurz he stated that it was “an Islamist attack, dictated by hatred, by hatred for our way of life, by hatred for our democracy, but it is clear that we will not be scared”.
The Minister of the Interior Luciana Lamorgese convened the National Committee for Public Order and Security following the Vienna attack. There are four victims and the number of wounded rises to 22, of which at least six would be serious.
