Attack in Moscow, the security committee convened by Piantedosi: “Lightlights turned on on the web, airports and other sensitive targets”

The meeting of the national committee for public order and security, chaired by the Minister of the Interior Matteo Piantedosi, convened after the terrorist attack in Moscow, has just ended at the Interior Ministry. The summit was convened to outline an analysis of the situation and take stock of the security measures, also in view of the Easter holidays. Since 7 October, sources from the Interior Ministry recalled in the aftermath of the attack, “the entire security system at national level has been at the highest level of mobilization, both in terms of prevention and in terms of safeguarding sensitive objectives”.

The monitoring activity

During the meeting, the importance of continuing the careful monitoring activity, including on the web, by the police forces and intelligence to identify any risk situations on the national territory was highlighted. This specific prevention activity has allowed, from 7 October 2023 to today, the expulsion of 47 individuals for security reasons, of which 9 by order of the Minister of the Interior. In 2024 there were 23 provisions, of which 5 issued by the Minister of the Interior.

The Easter holidays

Also in view of the upcoming Easter holidays, an intensification of surveillance and control activities by the Police Force has been arranged with the planning of specific operational, fixed and dynamic services, paying maximum attention to the places of greatest aggregation and transit of people, as well as all sensitive objectives, in light of their possible updating.

The threat of lone wolves

Already yesterday, the undersecretary of the Presidency of the Mantovano Council had indicated that in Italy “the threat is not so much that of organized groups”, but rather “the self-activation of lone wolves, and “the most worrying threat front is online recruitment, for which has been an anticipated conflict for years.”

The analysis of the Moscow attack

During the meeting, the ministry informs, “a careful analysis of the terrorist attack in Moscow was carried out also for the purposes of updating the anti-terrorism prevention measures already in place”.
