Surviving a life of tragedy, “Grandma Nina” frowned at the illness of the year and recovered in just a week.
Florentina Martín – or grandmother Nina, as her grandchildren and great-grandchildren are fondly called – is 99 years old. She was infected with covid-19 during a walk in Madrid, but recovered from the disease in seven days. The story was told to Spanish newspaper “El País” by granddaughter Noelia, 46, who has not seen her grandmother for three weeks, but who listens to her every day, over the phone, always at nine at night.
It was she who received the news that her grandmother, living in the Madrid municipality of Pinto, had had pain in her body for two days and could barely stand up. I didn’t even have the strength to hold a spoon, said Olga, the caregiver who has lived with Florentina for seven years. A diagnostic test confirmed the suspicions and scared the family. It was covid-19, at risk for people over 70 years old. And, for Nina, the 70s have been going there for almost 30 years.
For this reason, even before receiving the positive result, treatment began – three crushed paracetamol tablets a day. In seven days, it was fine and negative. In Spain, the press calls it the “miracle” of grandmother Nina, who has always survived adversity. Or, at least, since 1981, when it survived the gigantic fraud with toxic rapeseed oil for human consumption (adulterated with industrial oils), which agitated Spain. With the compensation that the State gave him, he bought a house on the beach for his son and grandchildren. In 1991, her husband died of cancer and, in 2002, she lost one of her children. The other had already lost, many years before, he was a child.
