The Mercedes-Benz W116 is the first car of the German brand that bore the now famous name S-Class – originally S-Klasse.

The large sedan came on the market in 1972, so it celebrates its 50th birthday this year, production lasted until 1980. The W116 was replaced by the W126 generation.

The first S-Klasse is an interesting car, Mercedes placed a lot of emphasis on safety, also equipped it with, for example, ABS anti-lock braking system (since autumn 1978), the driving characteristics were brought up to a new level from the double wishbone front suspension and we can also mention the fuel tank storage above the rear fix. This solution protected her better in the event of an impact.

Only one interesting example of the first S-class has appeared for sale in the Czech Republic. Mototechna Classic offers a car that caught our attention with its low mileage and very good condition. It is the most popular version of the 280 SE, of which, according to available information, 150,593 units were produced. In total, the German automaker produced 473,035 W116 cars.

The sedan offered by Mototechna was first put into service in 1979. The color scheme, which combines the orange-brown body with caramel-colored leather interior and wooden decorations, corresponds perfectly to this period.

According to the seller, the Mercedes has been refurbished and, at least in the photos, it looks really good. And the aforementioned low ramp? We only find 35,278 kilometers on the odometer.

The 280 SE version is powered by a 2,746 cc in-line six-cylinder petrol engine with indirect electronic injection. Maximum power is 136 kW at 5800 Nm, maximum torque is 240 Nm at 4500 rpm.

The engine is mated to a four-speed automatic transmission. According to official data, the W116 280 SE with automatic gearbox accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 11.3 seconds, travels up to 195 km/h and consumes an average of 12.5 liters of fuel per 100 kilometres.

The equipment includes radio, electric windows or power steering. An interesting sedan is on sale for 690 thousand crowns.
