An Irish Lithuanian who brutally beat his wife for ungrateful gifts escaped prison

Cork Criminal Court has heard a case in which 42-year-old Marius R. was convicted of violence against his wife Renata R. It was found that the wife had beaten the woman several times, plucked several strands of hair, tried to tear her false eyelashes, and suffocated her face by pressing her to bed.

It all happened on the 1st day of 2020 at their home in Cork, Main Street, and the Daily Mirror described in detail the details of the investigation, which was made public in court.

The woman was working that day and the man was intoxicated at home. When the wife returned from work in the evening, she joined her husband, several friends came, the company drank whiskey, and the couple got angry when the guests left – Marius R. complained that the wife was not grateful enough for the Christmas presents.

An employee of one fish factory expressed his dissatisfaction with his fists – he beat the woman with breaks for about 3 hours.

“Renata defended her legs, she tried to protect Marius from beating her in the face. The man hit the woman’s head on the table, dragged her to the bed. There, he pressed his wife face to the mattress, threatened that the woman suffocated, her face flushed, she did not move for a few seconds, and the man began to demand money, “local police spokeswoman Laura O’Sullivan testified in court.

According to her, at about 5.15 p.m. in the morning, the police received a call from a frightened woman, which was interrupted, and after calling this number back, no one answered – as it turned out later, the man smashed the device.

A furious man destroyed several of his wife’s phones, laptop, and TV at home. In a rage, he continued to reprimand her for her ingratitude for the gifts, intimidating and demanding 2,000 euros – after receiving the money, she promised to leave her husband alone.

When police officers arrived at their home, the woman was frightened, her hair falling in strands from her head.

Marius R. was arrested and arrested until February this year.

This week, the court sentenced him to 18 months in prison for violence against his wife, but suspended it for 3 years. During that time, among other conditions of probation, a Lithuanian will not be able to approach his wife’s home or try to contact her – if he violates these rules, he would end up in prison.

He already has such experience – he has been convicted several times before, and in 2000 he was found guilty of murder in Lithuania and spent 15 years in prison.

The relatively mild punishment of Marius R. caused a wave of outrage in Ireland over the fact that women in this country are not immune from domestic violence.

Social worker Caithríona O’Neill said such punishment for an extremely cruel man was “absolutely appalling” and was an example of how the Irish legal system did not protect victims of violence.

A campaign was launched on social networks after the verdict to deport Marius Ručinskas.

“The animal should not be allowed into our country,” wrote one Twitter user after the Lithuanian photo.
