The responsible services of the airport have taken the passengers from the planes to the terminal, informs the airport “Riga”
The airport runway is currently closed for one hour. The responsible services of the airport and representatives of the airline are working at the scene.
As “airBaltic” told the Jauns.lv portal, the “Airbus 220-300” plane, which was on its way from Paris, slipped off the hard surface of the runway at 11:17 p.m. during landing due to bad weather. None of the 89 passengers or 7 crew members were injured and all were taken to the terminal. The aircraft was taken to the hangar for a technical inspection.
According to “airBaltic”, the accident happened due to heavy snowfall.
The representatives of the airport invite passengers who were scheduled to arrive or depart from the “Riga” airport tonight to contact their airlines.
Jauns.lv already reported that the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Center (LVĜMC) issued a warning about a strong blizzard in Riga on Wednesday evening.
In the next few hours, a wide area of precipitation will pass through Riga – heavy snowfall and blizzard are expected, the snow cover will increase by five to nine centimeters.
