Amazon stops delivering non-essential products to France and Italy

The giant Amazon announced Saturday that it would stop delivering non-essential products to consumers in France and Italy because of the obligation to comply with the sanitary measures put in place to fight against the epidemic of coronavirus.

Amazon is taking another step to conserve resources in regions hard hit by the coronavirus. The world leader in online distribution will stop delivering non-essential products to consumers in France and Italy, according to an announcement made on Saturday March 21 by the group on the Chinese social network WeChat.

An Amazon spokesperson then explained that the group had made this decision because of the surge in orders and the obligation to comply with the sanitary measures put in place to fight the epidemic.

Are considered by Amazon as essential, childcare products, those intended for health, hygiene or even basic products for the home, groceries and animal food.

“Orders that consumers need most”

Consequently, Amazon will immediately stop taking orders “from its customers for non-essential products on its Italian and French sites. Its employees will be able to give priority to the preparation and delivery of orders whose consumers have most needed, “said Amazon in a statement translated from Chinese.

Several hundred employees of the American giant went on strike last week in France where the government imposed the closure of most non-essential businesses but exempted online trade.

The employees denounced working conditions which do not allow them to comply with the usual safety instructions. They said they were putting themselves in danger for an activity which is not essential to the life of the nation.
