Beijing

Air Koryo, the national airline North Korea landed in Beijing today, Tuesday (22/8). Previously, this airline was scheduled to land on Monday, but was canceled for no apparent reason.

Reported from Bangkok Post, This Tuesday (22/8/2023) was the first commercial flight for Air Koryo since the beginning of 2020. Precisely after North Korea closed its borders due to the corona virus pandemic.

The plane took off from the capital North Korea around 08:30 local time (2330 GMT), according to Flightradar24 and Chinese tracking app Umetrip.

When reached for comment at the company’s Beijing office, an Air Koryo representative said he had no information to provide. The previously scheduled Air Koryo flight to Beijing on Monday was abruptly canceled without a formal reason being given.

There is currently no clear flight schedule for Air Koryo. According to a report by NK News on Monday, Air Koryo will carry out two flights from Russia’s Vladivostok to Pyongyang on Friday and next Monday.

After three years of isolation due to Covid-19, there are increasing signs that Pyongyang may become more flexible on border controls. Last month, for example, Chinese and Russian officials attended a military parade in the North Korean capital and they became the first foreign dignitaries to visit the country in years.

Also, last week Pyongyang allowed a delegation of athletes to attend taekwondo competitions in Kazakhstan.
