A second family for the less fortunate

The Point Refuge association held its general meeting on Tuesday afternoon at its premises on Boulevard Foch. “It’s a great association with good partners and a great team! »

Isabelle Thorel-Reichenbach, the president of Point Refuge in Chartres, is full of praise for the women and men who have maintained, despite the complicated health situation, an activity that is certainly reduced, but which has nevertheless allowed the structure to fulfill its main role: welcoming between forty and eighty homeless people, precarious workers or asylum seekers every day. Since June, activities have gradually resumed.

Even in cramped quarters, in dilapidated but warm premises, the general assembly was attended by more than forty people, including a good ten who listened a little more to the outside.

“It’s true that we are cramped and that new premises would be welcome. We are talking about it. But despite this, we sometimes welcome sixty people regularly and it is always with great dignity and kindness,” explains the president.

Participate

This participation of the people received, their “power to act”, is encouraged. The hosts encourage them to take places and take on unusual roles such as taking part in the reception, leading an activity, becoming a volunteer and above all testifying.

The Abbé Pierre Foundation, a partner, notably enabled four people hosted at the Point refuge to take part, for four days in Avignon, in the multicultural festival “C’est pas du Luxe”.
