6 regions in the pre-epidemic phase

Brittany and Burgundy-Franche Comté joined Ile-deFrance, Occitanie, Pays de la Loire and Provence-Alpes-Côte d´Azur at the head of the regions affected by the virus. It has already caused 61 hospitalizations in intensive care.

The influenza is progressing slowly but surely on the territory … From now on, the half of the regions have entered the pre-epidemic phase and the number of consultations for influenza-like illness is increasing both in general practitioners and in emergency departments.

4 deceased

The flu virus has already claimed lives, some of which could have been avoided. Because half of the 61 patients admitted to intensive care since November 4, 2019 had risk factors for complications and were not vaccinated. The average age of these serious cases is 54 years. 4 died. Last year the epidemic resulted in 8,100 deaths.

The virus is easily spread from person to person through respiratory secretions through sneezing or coughing. It is also capable of surviving a few minutes on the skin, a few hours in dried respiratory secretions on tissues for example. And even up to several days on inert surfaces such as door handles or grab bars in public transport. Confined and very frequented places (metro, bus, school communities…) are thus favorable to its spread.

It is still possible to get vaccinated

The time between contamination and the onset of symptoms (incubation period) is 1 to 3 days on average, but can be up to five days. Meanwhile, the infected person can be contagious

It takes 15 days for the vaccine to take effect, but it is still possible to achieve it.
