Although the most common symptoms of Covid-19 are fatigue, headache, sore throat, fever, and changes in taste/smell, many sufferers also experience digestive problems and diarrhea. According to the data collected in the Covid Zoe app (Zoe is a self-reporting app for Covid-19 symptoms), the majority of such symptoms have been experienced by vaccinated British residents.
The data shows that there was an increase in the number of people reporting diarrhea as a symptom of Covid-19 in January 2022, which could be explained by the rapid spread of the omicron variant.
The team noted that diarrhea can be an early symptom of the virus, starting on the first day of infection and increasing over the course of a week. It usually lasts two to three days, but in some cases up to a week.
The National Health Service states that body temperature should also be measured and other symptoms monitored when diarrhea occurs. It would also be valuable to perform a Covid-19 test to rule out or confirm the disease.
