New York (VNA) – The permanent missions of Vietnam and Cambodia to the UN co-hosted a ceremony in New York on Friday (June 24) to mark 55 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Ambassador Sovann Ke, Permanent Representative of Cambodia to the United Nations, appreciated the good cooperation between the two countries, especially in the fields of politics, development, economy, trade and people’s exchanges, as well as as the close coordination between the two delegations.
He expressed his gratitude to Vietnam for the sincere help of the Vietnamese people, especially the Vietnamese volunteer soldiers, in helping the Cambodian people to rid themselves of the genocidal regime of Pol Pot.
The Cambodian diplomat also briefed his Vietnamese counterpart Dang Hoàng Giang on the priorities and activities Cambodia is chairing as chair of the ASEAN Committee in New York in 2022.
Ambassador Dang Hoàng Giang recalled the milestones of bilateral relations, saying that despite many challenges and vicissitudes in history, the solidarity, traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia have been consolidated and developed without cease.
The Vietnamese diplomat pledged to strive to preserve and promote the precious common good of the two countries to deserve the contributions and sacrifices of previous generations.
He also affirmed that the Vietnamese mission will continue to work closely with the Cambodian side to help further develop bilateral relations to meet the aspirations and interests of the two peoples and contribute to the common work of the UN. – VNA
