Before running towards Ragnarök, you’ll want to collect some runes. “But what are these runes?” you may be wondering. They are more than just the Viking alphabet: in Tribes of Midgard, runes are also powerful modifiers that the player can equip to increase certain stats, assign abilities, and more! There are 30 runes in the game, so you’ll need to do some experimenting to find the combination that most uplifts your tribe and best helps to take out enemies. Each of these runes can be the difference between razing and being razed.

Transbounding Life: it’s dangerous to go alone. Take this rune to revive defeated allies and immediately activate a HP 1000 healing area around them. Useful for those times when you’re the only one to survive a particularly devastating enemy attack.

Cold blood: Tribes of Midgard is set in Midgard… in the midst of a crisis. This means that the infinite winter, known as Fimbulwinter, is approaching. Use this rune to regenerate 50 HP per second and stay warm when suffering from the cold.

Nothing to Hide: clothes off? No problem! For every empty armor slot, this rune increases the damage you can deal. Ideal for the most fearless and skillful (and perhaps the most reckless). Nothing is more frightening than an Einherjar in his underwear.

Ragnarök Roosters Event: Gullinkambi and his brothers, Fjalar and the famous (or maybe not so much) Rooster without a Name, have already sung! And when these roosters of legend crow, it is believed to be the first sign of Ragnarök. Find the roosters and don’t be afraid to resort to “dirty play” if you need to.

Prisoner Event: The dark elves have taken prisoners, and you can free these captured souls from their nefarious claws. Keep an eye especially on Otto the Adventurer, who aspires to become a real Viking. To help you reach your goal, you need to carry out one of the oldest traditions of Viking culture: escape from prison. Free it to gain event fragments.

World Tree Deer Event: You can get some event fragments when defending your village. Four magical deer live in the branches of Yggdrasil: Dáinn, Dvalinn, Duneyrr and Durathrór. You will receive an alert when they descend from the World Tree to visit this realm. Locate them, tune in to them and make sure this is your lucky day!

Brrrrr. Do you feel that cold wind blowing, Einherjar? This means that Fimbulwinter is fast approaching, and its time is running out. When you see snow swirls even in areas that used to be green, you’ll know that Ragnarök is near. Accumulate these shards, for the time is at hand: your path through this saga has led to the most epic of battles (and if you survive, there are equally epic rewards to use in your next Midgard adventure!).

If you think you have enough fiber, grab your best armor, some cold resistance potions, fix your weapons and protect yourself with your warmest gear. But make sure you don’t leave and end up leaving your village defenseless. If the Helthings (or, Odin forbid, a Jötunn) show up, the people you’ve abandoned will have to defend their homes alone while you chase glory!
