The club coefficient is getting better, but the Czechs will probably have to write off one place in LM

After a successful Thursday performance in the 4th round of the basic groups of the European League, the Czech football clubs again came slightly closer to the top fifteen in the UEFA national coefficient rankings, securing the last five participants in the cups.

They reduced the shortfall by less than a point to the fifteenth Cyprus, for which they lose three and a quarter points. The Czechia consolidated its 19th place in the ranking. However, a return to the elite fifteen remains unlikely.

Czech clubs fell to 21st place at the beginning of this cup year due to the reading of results for the above-average 2015/16 season. After successes in the 3rd round of the European League three weeks ago, they then moved to 19th place and remained there even after Thursday’s program.

Thanks to Sparta’s victory over Celtic Glasgow 4: 1 and Slavia’s 3: 1 victory in Nice, domestic teams reduced the loss to the elite 15 by 0.8 points, just like three weeks ago. Liberec lost 0: 2 to Hoffenheim and this time he won nothing. Two points are awarded for the victory in the main stage of the cups, which are divided by the number of representatives in the cups, in the Czech case five.

The deployment for the next season is 2022/23. In the year 2021/22, Czech football still has the confidence of five participants in the cups, as it has narrowly stayed in the elite fifteen after last season.

In order for domestic clubs to return to the top 15, four countries would have to skip. The fourteenth Denmark, close the fifteenth Cyprus, the sixteenth Serbia and the eighteenth Switzerland have only one representative in the game, the seventeenth Greece as well as the Czechia three teams.

The trio of Slavia, Sparta and Liberec would have to gain at least 17 points more this season than the Cypriot Omonia of Nicosia or the Danish Midtjylland. Compared to one of the competitors, the Czech representatives would have to achieve at least eight more wins and one draw.

At the same time, the Czech trio would have to play at least nine points more than Crvena zvezda Belgrade, five points more than the Greek trio Olympiakos Piraeus, PAOK Thessaloniki and AEK Athens and four more than YB Bern. A move to 15th place thus remains unlikely.

If domestic clubs are unable to return to the elite 15, they will only play cups in four next season and will lose one place in the Champions League qualification. Only the champion would go to the prestigious competition, the remaining three would be waiting for the European Confederation League, which will have its premiere from next year. In the 2021/22 season, two of the five Czech representatives will go to it, the first two teams from the domestic league will have the qualification of the Champions League and one team the European League.
