1973 – Found in Finland lost ring in the US 47 years ago

Brunswick, Maine, USA

A high school graduation ring that was lost in Maine in 1973 was found in a forest in Finland.

Debra McKenna, 63, lost the ring in Portland when she was a student at Morse High School, the Bangor Daily News reported. He said the ring had been virtually forgotten until a metalworker found it buried about 20 centimeters (8 inches) deep in a forest in Finland, 47 years later.

The ring belonged to McKenna’s late husband, Shawn, who was her boyfriend throughout high school and college. The couple was married 40 years until Shawn’s death in 2017 after suffering cancer for six years. Shawn gave McKenna the ring before leaving to study at the university, and she accidentally left it in a department store.

The woman said she burst into tears when the ring arrived by mail at her residence in Brunswick last week.

“It is very moving in this world of negativity that there are decent people who take a step forward and make an effort,” he said. “There are good people in the world and we need more of them.”
