The number of new corona infections has risen again significantly: According to the Hamburg social authority, 411 new corona cases were registered on Wednesday. That is 126 more than on Wednesday a week ago and 205 more than on Tuesday.
According to the authorities, a total of 45,543 people in Hamburg have tested positive for the corona virus since the beginning of the pandemic. According to estimates by the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), around 38,000 of these can now be regarded as recovered.
Incidence value again over 100
According to the information, the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the past seven days rose again to over 100. It is now 101.3.
More than 1,000 dead in total
According to the social welfare authority, 447 corona patients are currently being treated in Hamburg’s hospitals, 12 fewer than on Tuesday. 95 of them are receiving intensive care – 5 less than the day before. According to the RKI, the number of people who have died in connection with Covid-19 disease in Hamburg since the beginning of the pandemic has exceeded the limit of 1,000. It is now 1.003 – 13 more than the last reported.
The first fatality was reported in March
The first corona fatality in Hamburg was a resident of a senior citizens’ residence born in 1944 in the Klein Borstel district in mid-March last year. The first German corona victim is a Hamburg firefighter who died a week earlier while on vacation in Egypt. The 60-year-old lived in the Duchy of Lauenburg.
The oldest person who died from or with Corona in Hamburg was said to be 102 years old, the youngest 24. According to the social authority spokesman Martin Helfrich, the median age is 83 years. “Among all the over 90-year-old Hamburgers infected with the coronavirus, the proportion of those who died is currently around 18 percent,” he said. Among the 80 to 89 year olds, the proportion is around 16.9, among the 70 to 79 year olds 10.2 percent and among the 60 to 69 year olds around 1.9 percent. In all other age segments, the proportion of infected people who died is therefore well below one percent. So far, there have only been two deaths among 20 to 29-year-olds, and none at all among younger people.
