4 tips to escape the epidemic

The gastroenteritis epidemic is spreading in France at the start of this year and intends, once again, to do damage. General medicine consultations related to this disease increased significantly during Christmas week, with 289 consultations for acute diarrhea per 100,000 inhabitants, according to network estimates sentinels, against 177 the previous week. The regions most affected are Grand Est, Occitanie and Nouvelle-Aquitaine.

Otherwise, six regions of metropolitan France out of thirteen are in a pre-epidemic situation for the flu, against four the previous week, according to Santé publique France. These are Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, Brittany, Ile-de-France, Occitanie, Pays de la Loire and Provence-Alpes-Côte d´Azur.

Whatever your place of residence or vacation, you must have been directly or indirectly affected by gastroenteritis during this holiday season and at the start of the year. To reduce the risk of “gastro”, there are simple advice to put into practice. If these complementary actions do not protect 100%, they can still help you avoid this particularly contagious disease.

1. Wash your hands regularly

To escape the virus, you must above all avoid physical contact and have impeccable hand hygiene. “What people don’t do enough, children even less“, deplores Laurent Toubiana, researcher and epidemiologist at Irsan.” You have to wash them several times a day and do not go without them quickly underwater, no. It has to foam“, he warns.

Beyond hand washing in the rules of the art, a clean and dry drying medium must be ensured. And if you can’t do it, being outside for example, consider walking around with a hydro-alcoholic solution and rubbing your hands with it, as soon as you feel like you’ve touched something potentially suspicious.

For the most motivated, don’t hesitate to wash your sheets, duvet covers, pillow cases and high temperature cushion covers. A good way to eliminate any risk of getting gastro.

2. Targeted nutrition

Who says gastro epidemic, also says change in our eating habits. At meal level, you have to avoid foods that put more strain on the guts: raw vegetables, eggs, dairy products, spices, alcohol, fats and raw foods. Prefer rice, bananas but also and above all garlic, well known for disinfecting the intestine.

You should also know that the more you cook food, especially those of animal origin, the better. You should also be extra vigilant when washing your fruits and vegetables. It is about your protection but also the protection of those around you. On the hydration side, do not miss the liter of water that should be drunk daily. You can supplement with tea, herbal tea, coffee or even soup.

3. Avoid contact in public places

Logically, the risk of being infected increases when you are in a group and especially when sitting in front of a sick person. If she wears a mask or sneezes on her elbow, the risk of spread decreases, but if it doesn’t, it’s best to cover your mouth with a clean scarf or tissue, and avoid touching his eyes, nose and mouth. In public transport, try to touch the ramps as little as possible that keep you going.

4. Rest

Finally, remember to rest well because the change of season and the temperatures that go with it make us more vulnerable. To sleep well, you have to eat lightly, exercise in sports and avoid screens at least thirty minutes before embarking on your minimum six hours of sleep. By following all these tips which ultimately constitute what makes a good lifestyle, the gastro should not pass by your door.
