A man and his two young daughters died on Friday due to a fire in an apartment complex in southern California, police said.
The man’s 8-year-old son was also found with serious injuries at home in the city of Hemet and was taken by air to a hospital, police spokesman Lieutenant Jeff Davis said in a statement.
The family slept when the fire started in their two-story unit at the complex in Hemet, 120 kilometers (75 miles) southeast of Los Angeles, said Lt. Nate Miller.

The 41-year-old father took his wife, 11-year-old baby and son from the apartment before returning for the other children, Davis said. The girls who died were 12 and 4 years old.
The man’s wife told police that the fire started in his apartment, Davis said in the statement. The cause of the fire is still being investigated, but Miller said there was nothing to indicate it was a crime.
The victims were not identified at the moment.
The Red Cross served 15 people displaced by the fire, said Emily Cox, regional communications director.
