12-Year-Old Girl Falls Into Coma After Vaping: Mother’s Heartbreaking Account

Jakarta

A 12 year old girl fell into a coma after trying vaping. The condition of the child named Sarah was getting worse because of the asthma she was suffering from.

Her mother, Mary Griffin, from Belfast, England, said her daughter almost died from a vape that made it difficult for her to breathe. Sarah was rushed to ICU at the Royal Victoria Hospital as her condition deteriorated very quickly.

“The doctor showed Sarah’s lung x-rays and explained that one of them was seriously injured. Therefore, the other one worked harder and made her asthma worse,” said Mary, quoted from The SunTuesday (10/10/2023).

“Sarah also had an infection, so combined it would have a big impact on her body very quickly,” he continued.

Doctors treated Sarah for four hours before she fell into a coma. Mary said that many tools were used to treat her daughter.

“There were tubes, wires and machines everywhere – it was heartbreaking to see him like that. As his mother I felt so helpless, it was a nightmare come true,” she said.

While being treated, Sarah used a machine to help her breathe. At that time, Mary felt that her daughter could not be saved because her oxygen levels were very low.

At the beginning of treatment, there were many concerns from medical staff when inducing it. However, these efforts were successful and succeeded in bringing Sarah out of the coma.

“They then tried to bring Sarah out of the coma the next day and started removing tubes, reducing her sedatives, taking her off the ventilator and slowly returning her to consciousness,” Mary said.

“At that stage I had hope Sarah would be fine. She is a fighter and absolutely outstanding in every way,” he continued.
