Puebla has received 116,000 vaccines against the human papilloma virus (HPV), announced the Secretary of State for Health, José Antonio Martínez García.

During the morning press conference, he stressed that it will be in the next few days when he announces the logistics for his application to girls attending the first and second year of high school.

In addition, he said they will also apply to children between the ages of 13 and 14 who for some reason do not go to school. “We will start with the processes to apply the HPV vaccine,” she said.

It was last October 9 when the state official reported that only 7,000 doses had reached the magnitude, a minimal amount after the federal government had not sent them in 2021.

So far, 145 human papillomavirus infections, 29 men and 116 women, have been recorded in the Puebla entity in 2022.

Nationally, 12,908 cases were recorded in the current year, 12 percent more than last year.

According to data from the Ministry of Health, HPV is considered a sexually transmitted disease composed of a group of more than 150 viruses, of which 35 percent are associated with both benign and malignant lesions.

70% of cervical cancer cases are attributed to viruses 16 and 18, while types 6 and 11 cause 90% of genital warts.

Among the preventive measures, in addition to the correct use of condoms during sexual intercourse, there is the application of the HPV vaccine to fifth grade or 11 year old girls who do not go to school.
