For ten years, benefits for people retiring in June were lower than for those applying for it in the remaining months. All through the so-called the June trap, which reduced benefits by up to PLN 300 per month. Now the benefits of such people will be recalculated. Moreover, some will get an alignment. June pensions to be corrected. Sejm amendment approved
What was the problem of June pensions? Over the last ten years, people who applied for a pension in June received lower benefits by as much as PLN 200-300. Their contributions and initial capital were indexed only with the annual index, while people applying for retirement in the remaining months benefited from both annual and quarterly indexation.

> – Our calculations indicate that under the current rules the June pension would be lower than the May pension by approx. 5%. and by 12 percent. from July. This gives even several hundred zlotys a month, depending on the amount of the old-age pension – emphasizes prof. Gertruda Uścińska, president of the Social Insurance Institution.

Don’t overlook it
ZUS will recalculate pensions
This is going to change from now on. An amendment in this matter was proposed by Senator Jan Libicki from PSL, now the amendment to the act on the social security system has been approved by President Andrzej Duda. After the liquidation of the so-called In the June trap, people who submitted their pension applications in June (in 2009-2019) will be recalculated by the Social Insurance Institution taking into account both indexation indicators.

– The amendment to the regulations also covers pensions granted in June 2021 and survivors’ pensions awarded after family members who died after May 31 this year. It does not matter whether ZUS granted the pension at the request of the insured person or ex officio, i.e. without the application, after the disability pension – informs Krystyna Michałek, the regional ZUS spokesman for the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship.

Alignments not for everyone
The Senate applied for compensation for all affected pensioners. There are over 120,000 such people. However, the Seym did not agree to such a solution, among others due to high costs. Only this year’s June pensioners will be compensated. Importantly, there is no need to submit applications in this matter.
