Youth prisoner used cocaine before being shot

The 21-year-old youth prisoner who last month took employees hostage during an escape and was shot dead by the Belgian police, was heavily under the influence of cocaine during his escape. This is apparent from new information from the Custodial Institutions Service. Kenneth B. escaped from the Den Hey-Acker institution in Breda and forced two employees of the institution to get into his getaway car under threat of a firearm.

21-year-old Kenneth B. had already been on unaccompanied leave for months and worked outside the institution on weekdays. He had left for work on Wednesday, January 12, when the institution was informed in the afternoon that he had been absent from work for three hours.

When two employees came to pick him up to take him back to Den Hey-Acker, Kenneth B. pulled a firearm in the car and forced the men to drive to Belgium. The 21-year-old had obtained the firearm in the three hours that he was gone.

Along the way, the prisoner used cocaine and was heavily intoxicated as a result, according to new information. In Hoogstraten, Belgium, he eventually put the employees out of the car and quickly ran off.

The two employees then called the Belgian police. The police then gave chase and Kenneth B. was eventually run over in the village of Sint-Lenaarts. The 21-year-old got out of the car and opened fire on the police, leading to a shootout. He was injured and died on the spot, despite attempts at resuscitation.

Movie with deceased
The night after, Thursday, January 13, the facility learned that another inmate on Snapchat had shared messages of disbelief about Kenneth’s passing. B. The prisoner had posted an old video of himself with the now deceased 21-year-old. The video appeared to have been shot in the facility a few years ago.

The management decided to search the prisoner’s room, after which a telephone was found. The phone indicated that the inmate likely continued his criminal activities while incarcerated.
