Statements by Sebastian Kehl left room for interpretation. Marco Rose is therefore confronted with speculation about his future at Borussia Dortmund. Will he stay with the vice champion?

Fürth – Shrugging his shoulders and smiling a bit embarrassed, Marco Rose himself gave the word of power after the sudden fuss about his future at Borussia Dortmund.
“I’ll still be coach of Borussia Dortmund next year and I’m really looking forward to it because I have an excellent relationship with my team, because I want to get a lot of things off the ground,” said Rose on the Sky TV channel after a Bundesliga game in Fürth, which ultimately revolved around the coach as a person.
Trustful cooperation
The question about his future made Rose uncomfortable. “What should I tell you about that? You are now trying to conjure up something out of something,” the Dortmund coach told the reporter and then referred to his relationship with the Borussia management: “I, Sebastian Kehl, Michael Zorc and Aki Watzke work together in a relatively trusting manner, not relatively, but very trusting together.”
It depends on the choice of words. Rose knows that. Therefore, he subsequently deleted the word “relatively” from his sentence and replaced it with the strong word “very”.
License player boss Kehl, who will replace Zorc as sports director in the summer, had not made such a correction. Before the 3: 1 (1: 0) on Saturday against relegated Greuther Fürth, he had twice answered the question of whether Rose would still be coach of Dortmund next season that he assumed.
This statement opened up enough room for interpretation to spark a lightning debate about Rose, who still has a contract in Dortmund until the summer of 2024.
Balance sheet is not BVB-like
Does he have to worry about his future at BVB? Rose immediately made an argument for himself and his work. “We’re runners-up, we’ve got 66 points, that’s more than last season,” he said on the penultimate day of the game and was right, of course. Last season, Dortmund were only third with 64 points behind the champions FC Bayern and RB Leipzig.
But Rose also repeatedly mentioned the malus in his first BVB season: “We were badly disappointed in all cup competitions.” Out in the DFB Cup round of 16 at second division FC St. Pauli, out after the Champions League Group stage level on points with Sporting Lisbon, then out in Europa League knockout round play-offs against eventual finalists Glasgow Rangers.
This record is not BVB-like. After the last home game against Hertha BSC, you will “make a few transfer decisions and start the new season with a lot of power and be ambitious as Borussia Dortmund, I promise,” announced Rose before posing with fans for photos and autographs in the Fürth stadium gave.
expectations were not met
In his debut season, he was unable to live up to the euphoric expectations that were placed in him after moving from Borussia Mönchengladbach last summer. Rose knows that too. Again and again he has criticized the attitude of his professionals and thus cast doubt on the squad architecture.
A change should bring Borussia nationally and internationally further forward. The future of super striker Erling Haaland will also be decisive. The Norwegian remained goalless in Fürth, but Julian Brandt shot Dortmund with a brace to become vice-champion.
Haaland’s contract runs until the summer of 2024, but he can leave BVB this summer because of an exit clause for 75 million euros. Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City is said to be already planning with him. Emphasis on “allegedly”.
