Very quiet New Year’s Eve in Germany, but injured by fireworks
From the perspective of the emergency services, Germany started the new year very quietly. Throughout Germany, fire brigades and police reported minor operations by evening due to fires, traffic accidents or violations of corona requirements.
In Berlin the fire brigade announced early Saturday morning on Twitter that they have so far twelve people were hospitalized for accidents with fireworks had to bring. The police had to send away numerous people who had come to the Brandenburg Gate in the hope of a New Year’s Eve party, as they announced on Twitter.
Elsewhere The Berlin authorities confiscated alarm weapons. By late evening, five people received reports of violations related to explosives, drugs and corona regulations.
According to the fire department, a man was seriously injured in the face by a rocket in Bochum. Overall, however, there were “significantly fewer injuries from fireworks than on usual New Year’s Eve”.
Also in Frankfurt am Main some celebrants were out. The authorities therefore had to block several bridges in the city center. Most people celebrated “peacefully in a small group,” wrote the police on Twitter. There have been isolated violations of the ban on fireworks. (AFP)
