Young Women in New York City Report Being Punch in the Face by Stranger – TikTok Videos Go Viral

In New York, young women report being punched in the face by a stranger on the street in broad daylight. The phenomenon has been going on for several weeks and some victims have shared their experiences on TikTok – where these attacks provoke strong reactions – while ‘ as the local police struggle to recognize the misogynistic nature of this phenomenon.

“I was walking down the street and a guy came up to me and punched me in the face,” says, with tears in her eyes, Halley Kate, the New York influencer in a video that was posted on March 25 on TikTok and has been viewed so far more than 50 million times. Since mid-March, fourteen women have reported being assaulted on the streets of New York by a man who appeared out of nowhere and whom they did not know, according to local authorities. These attacks took place in broad daylight, mostly in the Lower Manhattan area.
