Yesterday in Jūrmala, vacationers who were blown into the sea were rescued; 3 people drowned on Saturday – in Latvia

Two holidaymakers who were blown up at sea were rescued in Jūrmala last day, Agrita Vītola, a representative of the State Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS), informed LETA.

Vītola said that yesterday after 5 pm a call was received to Jūrmala, where a man with a mattress blew into the sea and another person went after him. Both people were taken ashore by the Jurmala municipal police.

The SFRS representative emphasized that carelessly placed cars made it difficult to get to this call, where help must be provided quickly. She called on holidaymakers to think about parking so that rescuers and doctors can get help as quickly as possible if necessary.

Yesterday, 27 rescue operations were carried out in the country – 11 of them took place in Riga, the same number was in the counties, but the rest of the rescue operations were carried out elsewhere in Latvia.

During the rescue operation, two people were rescued yesterday, but three more were lifted from the water.

She pointed out that one drowned person was lifted from the river in Skrunda region, another from the river in Ventspils region, as well as another drowned person was lifted from the pond in Talsi region today at 6.20.

Since the beginning of the year, 58 people have drowned in Latvia. In turn, 96 people lost their lives in the past year.

The SFRS reminds that it is necessary to observe caution when resting on and off the water, while using floats, residents are invited to wear a life jacket.
