Bhatia regrets her vote in favor of the Manati Coastal Corridor

The popular senator and pre-candidate for the government, Eduardo Bhatia, recognized as an error his recent vote in favor of the controversial Senate Project 1643 that would create the Manatí Coastal Corridor, modifying the limits of the Mar Chiquita nature reserve and other land in the coasts of said municipality.

“My record as a public servant in support of the great environmental struggles of our country is clear. I have always been against the privatization of beaches, the construction of land and sea areas and the destruction of our natural resources. ”Said the legislator of the Popular Democratic Party (PPD) in written statements through his social networks.

“Now, my commitment to the Puerto Rican people is to always tell the truth and today I have to recognize a mistake,” Bhatia acknowledged.

“From his face, the Senate Bill 1643 seemed to promote a laudable end. As a result of the legitimate claim of many citizens and friends with whom I have shared in important environmental struggles, I approached people whose criteria I respect, such as Lawyer. Pedro Saadé, the planner Luis García Pelati and Para la Naturaleza staff. In dialogue with them, I have convinced myself that my initial impression was wrong, and that this project has a hidden intention that detracts from our environment. ”Added the PPD Senate.

The candidate for governor asked the current first executive, Wanda Vázquez, to veto the legislative piece as soon as it reaches her desk. She also promised that in case the measure becomes law, she will present her own project to repeal it, to become governor.
