The best comes last – I left my heart in San Francisco.

I was here once before, 27 years ago, 49plus sends its regards! Somehow the city hasn’t really changed, it’s a little dirtier, the streets aren’t in good condition, everything is a little neglected and homeless again wherever you look. I wonder what is happening here with the money that the cities, municipalities, etc. take in?

Arrived on Sunday afternoon. The hotel sent me an email that there is a transfer from the airport for $ 19. Wait 30 minutes but that was ok. The hotel was close to the Unique Square, so it was very centrally located. The room was clean, otherwise it left a lot to be desired. The bathroom was like something out of a bad movie. When you stood at the sink you looked out the window, the mirror was on the right. And it was very loud. So I will not recommend this hotel.

In the afternoon and evening I walked around a little, at the market I filmed street musicians, they get together, sit down on the sidewalk, set up their instruments and play. Most of them very good jazz, blues, soul – for a view dollars. The street musicians were way better than in Denver. I sat down in Cafe Central, not to be compared with our Cafe Central. The coffee wasn’t great either, but you could watch the city go by and just indulge in the flair of San Francisco. How did Udo Jürgens already sing “… once with torn jeans in San Francisco …”.

But now it’s time for sightseeing. The first stop „Golden Gate Bridge“ – who does not know it, the most famous bridge in the world. The “Red Lady in Steel” is THE symbol of this city. The construction of the bridge began in 1934, after various problems and difficulties (we know that from our North Hospital) the bridge was inaugurated on May 28, 1937. Until 1964 it was the longest, most cantilevered bridge in the world. It is 2.7 km long, 27.5 m wide and weighs 22,000 tons. Very impressive. If you cross the bridge, you can do that on foot, there is a large parking and rest area. Here you have a wonderful view of San Francisco, and with good visibility you can see far over California. The bridge can always be seen completely in the morning until later in the morning, after that clouds and fog almost always come in and you can only partially see the bridge. From the parking lot we continue to Sausalito, the famous little artist town of the 1970s.

Over the bridge back to Palace of Fine Art, it was erected for the Panama-Pacific International Exposition, 1915. There are Roman and Greek influences, really worth seeing, the park is very beautiful, and you have the feeling you are in Europe, somewhere in the south.

Next stop Telegraph Hill – Coit Tower: Robert L. Stevenson named the hill „Peak in the Wind“, when you are upstairs and have enjoyed the view, you understand and feel why. To get to the top there is a street or steps, the Greenwich Steps or the Flibert Steps, I decided on the steps, it felt like 1000 (!), I then looked it up, there are ONLY 400 steps, but the “climb” It was worth it, the view was sensational. The name of the hill goes back to the 1st telegraph station that was built here around 1850.
