Women’s soccer team in the EC qualifying tournament loses again to Hungary – LV football – Football

In the F group of the qualification tournament, the Latvian national team in Liepaja gave up 0: 5 (0: 3) to Hungary, which was 4: 0 superior in the first meeting last November.

Latvian women came in the ninth minute, when Dora Zellere played precisely in the penalty area after the standard situation. In the 15th minute, Renāte Fedotova and Olga Ševcova reached the opponents’ goal with several passes, but Ševcova’s shot turned out to be completely weak.

In the 26th minute, Janet Jakabfi, who had previously dealt with pressure from the defensive players, reached 2-0 with a shot from a distance of about 17 meters. Five minutes later, Renāte Fedotova ran onto a great ball from Jürgen Schneider, which beat the offside trap, the keeper came rushing out and the lob was attempted, but the lob didnt succeed.

Even before the end of the first half (in the 33rd minute) Sāra Pustaia reached 3: 0. Anna Vaivode was caught napping as Pustaia lifted a ball over him following a free kick, but the ball hit the bar, rebounding into the keeper’s arms. In the 39th minute, the Latvians had a chance from the standard situation, but the judge whistled the back.

In the second half, Vaivode finished again after 54 minutes, when Lilla Turanji was awarded a free kick, but Turanji got a penalty shot after three minutes, but the shot went right into the keeper’s arms.

The Latvian national team has already conceded 30 goals or an average of five in one duel in six qualifying cycles.

It is significant that this was not the only qualifying game of the European Championship, which was played in Latvia, because Estonia and Russia also met at the “Sloka” stadium in Jurmala.

Russia defeated Estonia 3: 0 (1: 0).

Both national teams did not play in Estonia due to strict restrictions on Covid-19 in the northern neighborhood. They stipulate that persons who have entered Estonia from countries outside the European Union or the Schengen area must be subject to a 14-day quarantine upon arrival.

Due to the pandemic caused by Covid-19, the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) had to cancel the games for the European Women’s Championship qualifiers scheduled for spring and early June.

The Latvian women’s team led by Didža Matīss was scheduled to play a match in Slovakia on April 10. The initial game schedule also included a June 4 match in Iceland and a June 9 match in Liepaja against Hungary.

Subsequently, a calendar published by UEFA in May required a meeting with Iceland on 17 September and with Hungary five days later. The guests will have to meet with Sweden on October 22 and with Slovakia on October 27.

In the five games played so far, the Latvian national team has not reached the overall points, but has been pleased with its competitive performance, especially in the first two home games against Sweden (1: 4) and Slovakia (1: 2). Iceland (0: 6) and Hungary (0: 4) lost in the first round.

The second round for the Latvian national team started on September 17 with 0: 9 against Iceland.

In subgroup F, Sweden and Iceland have completed four games with 12 points, Hungary has scored seven points in six matches, while Slovakia is following with four points in four games, but Latvia has been left in six battles.

Also, this summer, the previously planned Baltic Cup did not take place, where, in addition to Latvia, the Estonian and Lithuanian national teams also start.

The winners of nine groups and the three best runners-up will qualify for the final tournament in England in 2022.

The order of play has been changed in this qualification cycle. Previously, there was a pre-race round of the race type qualification, in which the Latvian national team remained in the second place several times and a step from entering the main qualifying tournament. From this qualification cycle onwards, the pre-race round has been abolished and all 47 national teams have been divided into nine groups of six or five teams, making the qualification system similar to that of men’s teams over the years. The new competition format means that in the future official qualifying matches for the Latvian national team will take place more often and that there will be more of them.

This time the preparation for the game was different, because the footballers, who hone their skills in Iceland on a daily basis, did not participate in the training – defender Elīza Spruntule, midfielder Karlīna Miksone and forward Olga Ševcova joined the team in Iceland.
