Women’s replay: Despite dominance only draw

News, Women’s team | 07 Apr 2024

The day before the men’s Allsvenskan home opener, against Elfsborg, the ladies rehearsed at the Hitachi Energy Arena. The opponent was Enköping and the match was played in not too inviting April weather – 1-1 was the final score. The Green and White dominance was enough for a victory, but maybe the finish lacked the right sharpness?

Even though the upper hand should have resulted in a victory, coach Markus Lindberg was largely satisfied with what he saw: The match itself is a step forward in what we want to achieve and our ability to be skilled at passing is increasing.

He continues: “In the first half we have the ball a lot and control the game by playing a high defensive game and gaining control early. We open at a higher pace than the opponents, but it slows down in the second part of the half. We create several opportunities to score goals but do not get the ball in. I think they have two ends and both on the counter.

The half-time talk revolved around how the team could make their game more efficient: We talk about how to make better use of our situations and how we need to act when they try to counter.

Lindberg reasons further: In the second half, we again control the match picture but do not get the ball in. With more sharpness and calm in the last third, we would probably have scored 5 goals in the match. Now there will be a series premiere away in Karlstad (exactly in one week, 13/4) and we hope that several of our supporters will go there with us.

1-1 ended the match as said. Both goals came in the first half. The home team took the lead through Elin Antonsson before Enköping’s Maja Olsson equalised. The results in the last two games of the pre-season are probably not to the team’s liking, but the overall performance during the same can be considered positive.
