Sheikh Ekrima Sabri is a cleric who has been outspoken against American policies, especially regarding the transfer of the United States Embassy to Israel in Jerusalem.

He was injured because Israeli soldiers opposed the installation of metal detectors at the entrance to the Al-Aqsa mosque.

Citing local media Wafa, Israeli police argued that they were looking for Palestinian fugitives. This pretext is often used for raids carried out by Israeli authorities almost every day. Such arrests often trigger resistance from the Palestinian population.
