Woman Shot While Trying to Stop Dispute – NBC New York (47)

NEW YORK — A Manhattan woman was shot Wednesday after she tried to be the peacemaker in a domestic violence dispute between her neighbors, authorities say.

The incident took place at the Lincoln Houses located on 135th Street in East Harlem. The woman, identified as a 41-year-old Puerto Rican mother, was shot on the sixth floor of building number 60.

The shooting occurred after the victim and her husband approached the suspected shooter in front of his apartment. That’s when the suspect pulled out a handgun and opened fire, hitting the woman four times in the face, stomach, and back.

The suspect fled after the shooting broke out.

On-site authorities told Telemundo 47 that the weapon of interest was not recovered at the location and the suspected shooter is believed to still be armed and dangerous.

A neighbor of the victim described her as a “good woman” and said the victim’s children also witnessed the shooting.

Responding officers located a three-year-old boy in the apartment where the domestic dispute took place, according to law enforcement sources. The child was unharmed.

The 41-year-old woman was transported to Harlem Hospital with serious injuries.

Police are still searching for the suspected shooter, anyone with information that could lead to an arrest should call 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
