Woman (80) held hostage by burglar for twenty hours, Wordle game brings salvation | Abroad

Retired teacher Denyse Holt from Lincolnwood, Illinois, received an unwelcome visitor last Saturday. When she suddenly woke up around 1 a.m., there was a masked burglar standing right in front of her.

He had scissors pointed at her and crawled into bed with her. “If you say, yell or yell something, I’m going to stab you with this,” he said. She promised him not to, and he promised not to hurt her. And they kept their word for 20 hours, because that’s how long the hostage situation lasted.

Neighbour

What the burglar did not know was that a rescue operation was being launched thousands of kilometers away. Because her eldest daughter noticed that her mother had not yet sent the score in the popular game Wordle.

“She was worried because I didn’t send her that score,” Holt said. But she got no response to her messages and phones. When it turned out that the landline in the house was not working, the daughter called the neighbor. He alerted the police after no one opened the door, thus saving his neighbor. “Luckily,” says Holt. “I really didn’t want to die.”

The 32-year-old perpetrator was arrested.
