Germany also in partial lockdown again from Monday | NOW

Due to the increasing number of corona infections, catering establishments, gyms and theaters in Germany must close for at least a month from Monday, Chancellor Angela Merkel announced on Wednesday.

The chancellor is afraid that the pressure on hospitals will become too great if nothing is done to prevent the spread of the corona virus.

“We need to take action now,” Merkel said, saying the situation is “very serious.”

A maximum of ten people from two households may be together outside the house. It is also called upon to avoid unnecessary travel and not to visit people. Schools and day-care centers will remain open, but they still had to close at the lockdown last spring.

Many events are also canceled. At least in November, no spectators are allowed to attend matches in the Bundesliga, Germany’s highest football league.

‘Preventing Dutch situations’

The German government would like to prevent situations such as in the Netherlands at all costs, according to the German newspaper image. Although Germany is doing better compared to neighboring countries, the number of positive tests is increasing faster than earlier this year.

On Wednesday morning, the Robert Koch Institute registered 14,964 positive tests and 85 people who were infected with the virus. In total, 464,239 Germans have now tested positive for the virus and 10,183 infected people have died.
