Windows 10X: updates will install in less than 90 seconds

Microsoft reveals one of the features of Windows 10X compared to the standard version of the system: the speed of updates. The firm promises a whole new experience installing updates thanks to a number of structural changes, which will drastically reduce the wait time for users to install a new version of the system.

Installing updates to Windows 10 is not a very pleasant experience. Just for the last phase of the installation, it sometimes takes more than ten minutes to restart the system. This adds to the endless wait for updates to download, especially for those with a small connection.

With Windows 10X, Microsoft has completely redesigned the update process and promises faster installation than ever. Less than 90 minutes will be required to switch to the updated system version. This is possible thanks to the way Windows 10X is structured.

Microsoft has opted for OS segmentation by separating files and system components from drivers and applications. In doing so, much of the installation can take place in the background while the user is using their device. The latter switches to the new version of the system after restarting, all in record time.

Running applications in “containers” brings other benefits. Since these applications run separately from important system files, the OS becomes much less vulnerable to viruses and malware, as it makes it harder for programs containing malicious code to reach the heart of the system.

Finally, contrary to the rumors that had run in the meantime, Windows 10X will be compatible with Win32 applications and not only with UWP applications (available on Microsoft Store). This is good news because it means that Windows 10X, although different from Windows 10 in the user experience, will allow you to use the same software as the latter.
