“Why continue to expose ourselves when there is already indigenous transmission?”

Medicine student and LGBTI + rights activist, Luis Ángel Adán Robles, made a publication on social networks where he expresses his concern about the risk of contagion during the investigations they carry out in Cuba.

Why continue exposing ourselves when there is already indigenous transmission ?, asked the young man from the Facebook platform on Tuesday.

Adán Robles began his writing with the question: “Do you think the active research by the Medical Sciences Students is necessary in this phase of the epidemic?”

“I think we are not fulfilling a function, people hide symptoms from you, there are no good action protocols since you report patients with respiratory symptoms, the elderly who live alone, etc., until something is done,” he explains.

“These are times when it is better to be at home (as the rest of the population is sent) because we are large groups of students on the streets, gathered in places where there are already positive cases and at the end of the day we return to our homes where we also have family , the elderly, people included in the risk groups ”, he points out.

“I want to see all my classmates when we can go back to school, I do not want a martyr, nor empty tributes. I ask, if you who read me have any symptoms, could you not go to the hospital or health area alone? ”He added.

In the comments, the student asks the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP) to issue a statement on the matter and give compelling reasons for the investigations to be continued, or else he suggests that they should stop them immediately.

“There are students getting sick!” He adds.

Recently, medical students collected signatures called for the investigations to be suspended. as long as they are not guaranteed “adequate hygienic-sanitary conditions”.

“In my opinion, they are putting you at risk of contagion in the first place, it is an asymptomatic virus and it seems that the authorities do not understand this … second, they do not have the necessary elements of hygiene and protection and care. .. for me it is something obsolete and pointless that, far from helping, could complicate things more and raise real numbers … not those of NTV ”, judges an Internet user in the activist’s publication, suggesting that the figures provided by the Officials may not correspond to the true accumulated contagion.

In 2019, Luis Ángel Adán Robles he was released from his positions as deputy in the National Assembly of Cuba and delegate in the Municipal Assembly of Centro Habana. He was considered the youngest representative in those instances.

“My time is quite limited, I am not only a deputy (like others) I am also a municipal delegate, do you know what that means? Well, it means being available all the time to your voters, meetings (many), in the accountability processes, saying X times that many of the approaches have not been solved and they tell you many things, “he explained then.

Similarly, he said that, apart from serving as a medical student, he had to work as a waiter, something that is becoming more frequent among university students in Cuba who, despite receiving classes for free, must cover their personal expenses in a country where the Average salary barely exceeds $ 40 a month and those who study hardly receive a derisory stipend.

The young man was also one of the deputies who defended in the National Assembly the egalitarian marriage included in the draft of the new Cuban Constitution. However, his LGTBI + activism was questioned after the independent march in Havana, when he preferred to support the government initiative by Mariela Castro, daughter of former Cuban ruler Raúl Castro. At that time, Adam Robles suggested that participants in the protest walk, which would eventually be repressed by the authorities, were paid by the “enemy”.

Cuba reported on Wednesday that 48 new cases of coronavirus were registered in the country, which now brings the total number of infected to 814. In addition, there are 2,466 admitted patients, while another 6,572 people are under surveillance in their homes from Primary Health Care.

In the last hours, three Cuban citizens lost their lives, which increases the total of deceased to 24.
