The WHO said that “Deltacron” does not exist

The organization denies that there is a hybrid of the strains of COVID Delta and Omicron, and urges not to use these concepts.

The so-called “Deltacron coronavirus strain” identified by Cypriot scientists was most likely obtained as a result of an erroneous study of a COVID-19 sample. With such a statement on Monday, January 10, spoke chief epidemiologist of the World Health Organization Maria Van Kerkhove.

According to her, in this situation, the concepts of “strain”, “Deltacron” and “fluron” (simultaneous illness with influenza and coronavirus) should not be used, since they have nothing to do with her.

“These words imply a combination of viruses / variants, and this does not happen. Deltacron is probably contamination of the sample during sequencing,” the epidemiologist said.

We will remind, on January 8, scientists in Cyprus said that discovered a new strain of coronaviruswhich is a hybrid of Delta and Omicron. 25 people were infected with the “new variant”.
