It was the 4th time and therefore good for Fabrice Loher.

At 53, he has just picked up the keys Lorient, socialist stronghold since 1965, city of Jean-Yves Le Drian (1981-1998). He had already run three times in municipal elections in 2001 (UDF-RPR-Liberal Democracy list), in 2008 and in 2014.

This June 28, the leader of the opposition won in favor of a quadrangular, with 35.34% of the vote, and against a background of massive abstention (36.48% of participation).

A man’s persistence paid off

Regional councilor of Brittany from 2004 to 2010, he was elected to the municipal council of Lorient since 1999 and stands for the 2020 municipal elections by publishing a program book in which he denounces in particular “the increasingly lonely governance of the outgoing mayor“.

In “A new Lorient dream“, he learns from his failure in 2014 (where he had collected 34.03% in the second round), and promises to end the logic of the system, denounces pell-mell insecurity, trafficking in certain districts, and proposes a policy for welcoming migrants combining “generosity“and”firmness“.

Economic recovery

He promises to initiate a “economic recovery strategy“, wanting to take advantage of Lorient’s maritime positioning. He also calls for more video surveillance and a strengthening of the municipal police.

Fabrice Loher notably mentioned European funds to help the finances of his city and in particular an envelope of 100 M € of European funds on which he hopes to count: “We are in a city with a high poverty rate. One in five Lorient residents live below the poverty line with a high unemployment rate. We must act quickly and strongly, because in addition the crisis will worsen the situation. The economic actors of the territory are ready to take up the challenge with us“.
