June Sees Record Tourism Numbers in Linz Thanks to Major Events and Cultural Offer

The strongest month so far for tourism in Linz was June with 104,058 overnight stays. For comparison: In June 2019 – the year in which the highest numbers were documented so far – there were only 88,331. However, three major events took place in June with the SBÄM, the Bubbledays and the Lido Sounds, which brought many guests to Linz.

Dieter Recknagl, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Linz Tourism, is accordingly pleased: “The entire industry, but above all the overnight accommodation providers, are benefiting from this good development. These positive figures are also urgently needed in order to cover the ongoing cost increases of the businesses and to keep the quality for the guests at a high level.”

Cultural offer ensures tourism boom

Tourism Councilor Doris Lang-Mayerhofer sees the cultural and leisure activities as the main reason for the boom in the number of overnight stays: “Linz presented itself this year with an unprecedented open-air cultural offering – and the further outlook with the Ars Electronica and the Bruckner Festival in autumn as well as the super culture year 2024 for the Anton Bruckner anniversary promises increasing international interest in our city,” says Lang-Mayerhofer.

In addition to overnight stays, the number of day visitors to Linz is also increasing: it’s not just the cruise ships that let their passengers go ashore here – the Danube Cycle Path is also as popular with cyclists as ever. In addition, numerous school classes spent their project days in the Danube city in June, which was full of young people during these weeks.

New beds make an increase possible

At the same time, new hotel beds make an increase in numbers possible. While Linz still had 5,515 beds on offer in 2019, there are currently 6,712. The figures reflect the inclusion of additional private providers and the opening of new hotels – such as the Bee Green or the Art-Inn Design Hotel. The latter two establishments were opened by hoteliers Lisa Sigl and Michael Nell in 2022.

“The booking situation for the first six months looks very promising. With a wide range of cultural offerings and an unprecedented festival summer for all age groups and interests, we not only extend the length of stay for the guests, but also generate repeat bookers who want to discover even more of Linz on their second visit,” reports Lisa Sigl.
