“Compared to last year, our customer interest has increased by about one hundred percent,” said Tibor Jonáš from Envi energy Czech, which supplies and assembles power plants. According to him, the effort of customers to secure cheaper electricity in the future began last year after the collapse of Bohemia Energy and was supported by the effects of the war in Ukraine.

Similarly, Pavel Vachuška from Solengen is very interested. He sees the causes similarly. “Before 2021, photovoltaics was Cinderella, the interest was relatively small,” he said, adding that his company focuses more on households. “Photovoltaic power plants are rather ordered by people over the age of forty with a university degree,” he added.

“Compared to last year, the increase in demand and contracts in our country is eightfold,” stated Pavel Matějovič from Schlieger. He, too, observes him across all segments. “Currently, there is a great demand for apartment buildings,” he said.

CEZ also reports a triple demand for photovoltaics compared to last year, especially from companies and municipalities. The Ministry of the Environment then approved subsidies from the Modernization Fund for projects, a large part of which concerns the construction of smaller photovoltaic power plants for more than 2.2 billion crowns.

“Support for photovoltaic power plants continues, this time for smaller ones up to one MW,” said the ministry’s press department.

The addressed suppliers then jointly claim that, given the prices of electricity, it pays off for almost everyone, even though they still have their prices advantageously fixed. “But we don’t recommend it, for example, on old roofs that are about to fall,” says Jonas.

Several years of return
Vachuška and Matějovič then state that the size of the roof where the power plant is mounted is important in order to have sufficient power. For too small, the savings may be smaller. “The customer should also have consumption evenly distributed throughout the year, or consume more in the summer,” added Vachuška.
Even so, it depends on the calculations, the return is usually estimated at five to seven years. However, these are estimates from a time when there was not such a sharp rise in electricity prices.
