WhatsApp trial feature to hide number cellphone users from strangers in the Community column.
This latest feature is said to be present in the latest WhatsApp Beta update, for both Android and iOS devices.
Quoted from WABetainfothis feature will be available for WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.23.14.19 and WhatsApp beta for iOS version 23.14.0.70.
This feature is coming to a limited number of users, and will roll out to a wider audience in the coming weeks.
In the past few months, WhatsApp has quietly started testing a new feature for communities that will add an extra layer of privacy to a user’s account when joining certain communities.
This feature, called “phone number privacy”, ensures that a user’s phone number is always hidden from the rest of the community.
Currently when a user joins a community, the list of community participants is already hidden in the community announcement group. But users cannot interact with the community announcement group through message reactions because this will reveal their phone number.
Thanks to this new feature, the user’s phone number will remain hidden even when adding reactions to messages.
In a screenshot from WABetainfo, the feature will display a warning informing users that their phone number is only visible to community admins and others who have saved it as a contact.
This feature will hide the user’s phone number so that all other participants will not be able to see the user’s full phone number in the conversation.
Furthermore, this latest feature provides significant improvements to user privacy. This is because users will be able to interact with community announcement groups anonymously.
