Sky Skate is located on the 100th floor and offers a new attraction for visitors.
Artificial ice skating from inside the observatory Edgelocated in 100th floor of a skyscraper in the new luxury district of Hudson Yards (Manhattan), more than 354 meters high, is the last tourist activity in New York which opens to the public from this Tuesday 10 January.
“We thought, ‘What’s more iconic about New York ice-skating?’ Installing ice in an enclosed area is a real challenge. Fortunately, we have found this material called ŽgliceŽ (synthetic ice),” said Greg Holtzman, deputy director of Partnerships and Communications for Hudson Yards Experiences.
The skating rink 95 sq mwas christened as Sky Skate (pun meaning sky skate, but which sounds a lot like an ice skating rink) and from inside you can see the cities of New York and New Jersey from a bird’s eye view.
The skating rink is thus proposed as a “plus” within the already numerous offer of observatories at the top of the city’s skyscrapers.
With the focus on social networks
Holtzman indicates that the goal of the new observatory, which opened in 2020, was offer an alternative activity to visitors, especially on days of heavy rain when the terrace at The Edge has to be closed.
Also, they wanted to install something that would also get the attention of the residents and that could success on social networks.
“People come here because they want the perfect picture of their New York experience, whether it’s a photo, video, TikTok, or (Instagram) reel. So what better way to give visitors a moment plus with Sky Skate So they can have their moment outside and now they can also have their moment inside, and that still gives them more content to publishHoltzmann explains.
The artificial ice rink will be open until March 14th and entrance fees 48 dollars, which includes the pass for the observatory and the rental of skates; if purchased once inside the observatory, it will cost $10.
