Weather – Offenbach am Main – Increased risk of forest fires in Thuringia: Further fires – panorama

Erfurt (dpa / th) – The forest fire risk in Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia is still tense. According to the Landesforstanstalt, there was danger level 3 across Thuringia on Tuesday, and the second-highest level 4 in parts of the forestry office in Heldburg in southern Thuringia. Meteorologists expect some relaxation over the course of the week, as a spokeswoman for the German Weather Service (DWD) said. Because in addition to the lack of rain, the warm, dry wind is a reason for the risk of forest fires. Since the wind slackens over the week, the risk of forest fires will decrease slightly, it said.

By the end of last week, Thuringia Forest had already registered seven forest fires, as spokesman Horst Sproßmann said. Experience shows that the risk of forest fires is particularly high in early spring and in August, according to Sproßmann.

At the beginning of the week, more fires were reported. On Monday, two smaller fires broke out in the Thuringian Forest and near Saalfeld. In both cases, campfires were said to have been the reason, as police spokesmen from Suhl and Saalfeld said on Tuesday. In the Thuringian Forest, the fire at the Hoher Stein destination near Steinbach-Hallenberg caught fire of around 16 square meters of forest. The fire had been extinguished the day before, but it was probably rekindled by the warm, dry wind.

In the Remschütz district of Saalfeld, unknown people built a hut in the forest and made a campfire. This was also deleted the day before, but was then rekindled, said a police spokesman. About 20 square meters of forest were affected by the fire. The volunteer fire department was there with about 20 emergency services. The police suspect that teenagers have avoided meeting in the forest because of the corona restrictions.

In both cases, it is investigated for negligent arson.
