THE HAGUE –
Some of the residents of the Duindorp district in The Hague got little or no water from their tap on Thursday morning. This was due to the ‘illegal opening of fire hydrants’, drinking water company Dunea said.

In Duindorp, four fire hydrants at Tesselseplein and Meeuwenstraat were opened last night. ‘Residents of Duindorp may still get water from the tap, but the pressure is much lower,’ explained a spokesman for the drinking water company. By turning on the hydrants, a booster pump had knocked out and the water pressure had been lost. “This is exactly what we have been warning about in recent days,” said the spokesperson.
The loss of water pressure was limited to Duindorp because the water supply network is divided into compartments. “Duindorp is a separate sector in our water supply,” said the spokesperson. The water pressure was restored around 12.45 pm.
Seek cooling under the jet
Fire hydrants have been opened in more places in The Hague in recent days. Local residents want to cool off under the jet. ‘That is not fun, but illegal. It causes a lot of nuisance and is also a risk to public health and safety in the neighborhood, ‘Dunea said on Wednesday about the’ fire hydrant vandalism ‘.
Last Tuesday at least ten fire hydrants in The Hague turned on. Dunea therefore filed a report. Two residents of 17 years old have been stopped by the police.
