Zwickau – A white Golf Variant was the last VW with an internal combustion engine that rolled off the assembly line in Zwickau on Friday. In the future, the electrically powered “ID.3” will secure the Zwickau automotive location. However, skepticism is growing.
It all started 116 years ago with the “Horch 14-17 PS”. Only 21 vehicles were built in 1904. Later in the GDR, Zwickau was the Trabi town: 3 million pieces were built. After the turnaround came Volkswagen, saved the location and Saxony as a car country.
On May 21, 1990, a VW Polo (55 hp) was the first to be screwed together – just as alpine white as the last combustion Golf. A total of 6 million Polo, Golf and Passat models have since rolled off the assembly line in Zwickau-Mosel.
