Jakarta

Video of a resident experiencing violence while unfurling a presidential candidate banner in the middle of a visit President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) in Gunungkidul, Yogyakarta, went viral on social media. The Presidential Security Force (Paspampres) emphasized that the man who committed violence against the residents was not from their side.

“Regarding the incident of acts of violence by encouraging residents to unfurl banners during the working visit of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Mr. Joko Widodo, to the Wonosari area on Tuesday, January 30 2023, which was carried out by members of the Paspampres, this is not true,” said Paspampres Assistant Intelligence Officer Colonel Kav Herman Taryaman. in a written statement, Wednesday (31/1/2024).

In the video circulating, the man initially stood near residents who were preparing to welcome Jokowi. The man wearing a red jacket with a black hat then stretched the banner towards Jokowi’s car.

Then there were two people wearing sweaters and hats who approached the man. They pushed the man away and carried away the banner he held up.

After that, a narrative emerged which stated that the person who hit the man was a member of the Paspampres. Herman Taryaman denied that the two people were from Paspampres.

“If we see in the video circulating, that those who encouraged the residents who unfurled the banners were wearing ordinary civilian clothes, while the Paspampres were clearly seen wearing official uniforms in the form of tactical clothes, who at that time were wearing blue tactical clothes and TNI service uniforms from motorized escorts,” said Herman.

Herman emphasized that Paspampres functions in accordance with the rules contained in Law Number 34 of 2004.

“Paspampres, in accordance with its duties and functions as regulated in Law Number 34 of 2004 concerning VVIP security, is to carry out its duties by means of close physical security against VVIPs,” said Herman.
