[Vidéos] A clip to get closer to the disabled

Under the pseudonym of MTH, Mathieu Diffort is slowly embarking on the artistic and committed field. Audiovisual engineer, but also songwriter and director, he works for the Mulhouse association Art’Soc ‘whose aim is to promote “the production and dissemination of contemporary creation by participating in cultural development in Alsace ”.

On April 9, Mathieu posted his first music video, “The Pain”. A title with electronic sounds where MTH evokes “a break between suffering and man” on a slammed text and passed to the mix of autotune.

Respect for differences

Change of atmosphere on April 25 with “Proximity”, a new song revealed by Mathieu Diffort, but on reggae music, with a text asking the question of disability: “Some people said it was bad luck. Disinterested in him because he wasn’t soccer. ”

The message is clear: fight indifference and respect differences. Mathieu has had the subject in him since his childhood in Illfurth: “When I was in kindergarten, I had a friend, Simon, who suffered from a disability. No one cared about him because he was different. Later, I met Tib who became my best friend: he was the same age as me and he was a myopath. And then, I have a niece, Rachel, whose very heavy handicap mobilizes the family. But it was above all Tib – unfortunately deceased – who motivated me and helped me find my way. “

The clip of “Proximity” was shot outside near Mathieu’s home in Aspach, but also in Mulhouse with the help of Joël Roth of the Art’Soc association. We can see the faces of several disabled people who agreed to appear on the moving short film. “I didn’t think it would take on such proportions,” exclaims Mathieu. “We produced the clip in four days. There was a real synergy between Parisian colleagues in telework and artist friends who participated in the choirs. My concern is above all to change the way others view disability. ”

Social misery

For Mathieu alias MTH, the message is essential. Even more than the prospect of an artistic career: “I am revolted in the face of discrimination against the disabled, violence and social problems. Every day, I face this misery that I also see in remand homes, homes, local missions … So, I’m just using my cartridges to try to change opinion. “

In his projects, there is no springboard or competition: “I don’t sing to shine or make a career, but simply because it’s my job, and I want to do it well. It’s hard to live with music, but I can express myself very well while staying at home “

Mathieu is already working on other strong subjects: “I am thinking of prostitution, delinquency in general or radicalization. I would just like to show that we can reverse the trend. And to avoid hitting anyone, I will subtly use metaphors. I am also interested in ecology, consumption patterns, beliefs or false beliefs. So many subjects for everyone, including children. They are the consumers of current music and it is their hearts that must be won. “

Can the health crisis that humanity is going through promote awareness? Mathieu Diffort wants to believe that with the young people he rubs shoulders with at Art’Soc ’, another future is possible:“ We are more than ever confronted with what seems to be a new world. A world where we no longer build to “have” but to live and survive. We can no longer remain individualistic ”.
