VIDEO: The classic car cemetery that few know about the Northern Trunk | News from El Salvador

Salvador Vaquerano is the owner and guardian of a true loot of automotive jewelry, worthy of collectors and envied by connoisseurs of the motor world.

At kilometer 11 of the Carretera Troncal del Norte there is a cemetery of classic vehicles ready to be discovered by those collectors willing to restore these pieces of automotive history. The owner of the cars is Salvador Vaquerano, a man who has spent the last decades collecting cars of all kinds.

From a young age, Salvador began to collect the American magazine “Popular Mechanics” and his love for cars continued to build. The first two he bought were a Datsun 120Y and a pickup from the English manufacturer Vauxhall. After that everything was history and he dedicated himself to traveling from east to west in search of rarities.

“I have had several offers from banks to buy them,” he emphasizes and relates that the nearly 30 classic cars that he has in his bone store, they are now debt free and belong to him.

In the property that Vaquerano protects you can find a wide variety of vehicles: from the famous 1967 Ford Maverick, the Mercedes Benz 250, a Toyota RT40 and rare models such as the Opel Rekord and others that were famous among Salvadorans such as the Toyota Crown . However, for Vaquerano the jewel in the crown is his ’67 Ford Mustang.

Salvador Turcios claims to have a unique car in the country, a 1956 Ford Taunus made in Germany. Video capture.

The man assures that many classic enthusiasts come to that place to buy parts of the automotive rarities that he owns and one of the most sought after is the Datsun 510, a car that became famous in the world of rally and in the automobile championship speed Trans-Am; and that one of the characteristics for which it was sought is that it had an independent rear suspension.

“There is a man who sends his brother from the United States to buy me parts, because he says that this car is valuable there,” he proudly says, as he opens the hood of the little yellow car and boasts the car’s L16 engine, one that derived from those used in the Mercedez Benz in the 60s.

The Datsun 510 has proven to be a gold mine for Vaquerano because of its parts, however the real ace for this car collector is the 1967 Ford Mustang, which he acquired in the early 2000s. He says he acquired it in about $ 3,000 and for 20 years it became his favorite car.

Although it was mechanically damaged when he acquired it, he and his son worked countless hours to repair it and finally got it working. Although he does not use it very often and its paint is worn and the aesthetic details are evident, Salvador Turcios assures that the car attracts everyone’s eyes.

Many people have wanted to buy the Mustang, however nobody has reached the price that Don Salvador asks for, in addition to looking for an owner who treasures one of the most representative American cars in the history of the Ford brand.

A unique car in the country

Salvador Turcios claims to have a unique car in the country, a 1956 Ford Taunus made in Germany that has a 55 horsepower engine and that has most of its original factory elements.

Being a one-of-a-kind car, he and his son have had to resort to ingenuity to repair it, as parts are not easily found. One of the techniques they have had to resort to is to make adaptations of parts from other brands to make it work.

Although he has stopped working on the Taunus for the time being and has dedicated himself to tending to its parts sale, he wants to complete the job and sell it to a car lover who appreciates these pieces of engineering as much as he does.
